A Quick “Sik” on Dovah

By Thursday the 11th of December, 2014 Dovah Diary

Dovah Design? What the heck does that mean? If you’ve made it this far, you might be curious about the name I have chosen for my cosplay alias.

For those who are not familiar, this word comes from the popular open world RPG video game, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Haven’t heard of it? GTFO. Just kidding. But seriously, check this out and learn what you’ve been missing out on. Got it? Good. So, back to the whole Dovah Design thing…

“Dov,” in the dragon  language, means “dragon kind,” or the race of dragons. “Dovah” means “dragon,” and “Dovahkiin” is the “dragon born” – your character in the world of Skyrim. The Dovahkiin possesses the power of dragons, and can absorb a slain dragons’ soul to gain their power.

Lesser known is the second meaning for “Dovah” which is “me” or “myself.” This of course, when spoken by a dragon, makes a whole lot of sense! So before you go telling me how big of a dork I am (not going to argue with you), I wanted to profess my wit and cunning in my first post of the Dovah Dairy.  Yes, Me. Dovah Design.

“Ahrk fin norok paal graan fod nust hon zindro zaan,
Dovahkiin, fah hin kogaan mu draal!”

-From The Song of the Dragonborn

Interested in learning more about Dovahzuul (the language of dragons)? Check out Thuum.org. They are not only an amazing resource but have a great community of avid TES fans who are constantly striving to make the dragon language come to life. I am a frequent visitor and am proud to say I am slowly picking up letters and words here and there.
